Russwood Ltd Office - Newtonmore (2001)

This building is for the timber supply company Russwood. Their brief required that it should not only provide a pleasant office environment, but be a show house for their products. The detailing of the building was also important, as it had to demonstrate that if done properly, timber cladding can be an effective and low maintenance alternative to traditional masonry.

Within the building various timbers supplied by Russwood are used. This includes oak flooring, Douglas fir facings and cladding, and their own laminated oak windows. The entrance area has oak cladding and an oak door, specially manufactured by Russwood.

By using patent glazing and large windows, natural daylight allows the timber to be seen at its best, as well as allowing views out to the workings of the yard. The roof is of profile metal sheeting, a cheap and attractive alternative to slate.
