Development at Achahoish, Argyll (est. date of completion 2010-11)

Dualchas were appointed to provide design services for a 32 unit housing development in mid Argyll. The housing is  to be a mix of private, RHOG, and low cost.

A careful examination of the 5 sites on the estate allowed Dualchas to develop a masterplan before more detailed design work was developed. By grouping the houses we were able to avoid standard road specifications and keep the rural character of this stunning part of west Scotland.

The  houses  are  inspired by those around the estate,  traditional in scale and proportion but  modern in design with the latest  heating systems and materials.  The ambition is to create a sustainable housing development which adds to, compliments and engages with the surrounding community, a community that desperately needs new housing.

All the housing is orientated to exploit passive solar gain and maximise daylight.

To reduce the carbon footprint during the construction phase and throughout the lifespan of the buildings, the project is to be constructed using structurally insulated panels.  All the houses have full planning permission and it is hoped construction will start early next year.
