According to Phil Burn, who lives on the Isle of Skye, the island has something of a dual personality, which can broadly be divided into the “wild north” and “soft south”. So it might seem surprising that, when it came to moving from Reading in Berkshire, she and her husband, Ian, opted for the wild north. However, the couple are delighted to have taken that leap of faith, although it wasn’t without its challenges — not least, the small matter of making the home they intended to build “hurricane-proof”.
