Dualchas at HIFAR seminar on Arran. PDF Print E-mail

Dualchas was one of six companies called upon by the Housing Initiative for Arran Residents (HIFAR) to give a presentation at a seminar on 22nd June 2007 in Auchrannie, Arran.

The pursuit of sustainable affordable housing on Arran, and the problems related to it, was on the agenda during the day-long seminar. Other speakers at the seminar included representatives from the Rural Housing Service, Scottish Renewables, Community Self-Build Scotland and North East Energy.  Topics discussed included individual house design, sympathetic community planning, renewable energy production and use (both for individual homes and for the larger community) and how these participating companies can help HIFAR to achieve its goals.’

Dualchas architect Mary Arnold-Forster told The Arran Banner: ‘If we look to the past then we can learn a lot from it.  Our ancestors built to suit the landscape as well as survive in it. Our new kit houses cost as little as £45,000 and the modern design is based on traditional black houses that fit into these rural settings.'
