9 Kendram, Kilmaluag, Isle of Skye (2008) This three bedroom house was designed for a couple of academics from down south, who were looking to move to Skye after finishing their careers. They were attracted to the rugged beauty of the north east of the island, and wanted to make the most of the expansive views over the bay at Kendram. The ground floor has been finished in limestone, with oak used in shelving and doors. A large Morso stove forms the centrepiece of the living space, and there are recesses for log storage and shelving. The kitchen is in a timber clad section to the rear, and has a stone worktop and a simple aesthetic. The house is heated by electric underfloor heating to the ground floor, and panel heaters upstairs. It is highly insulated and well sealed, so despite the exposed nature of the site, it should have relatively modest heating bills. |
