An Tigh Learaig - Achbeg, Ross-shire (2003)

This simple timber frame house is clad in larch, hence the name 'An Tigh Learaig' - 'The house of Larch'. Built on a site at Achbeg Farm near Achmore in Lochalsh, the house has an open plan living accommodation on the ground floor and two bedrooms and a bathroom on the upper level. Views to the glen are fully exploited by inserting a steel post between the glazing at the west corner, and adds to the quirky appearance of the building.

It is intended that the larch cladding will be left untreated allowing it to weather to an attractive silver colour. Care in the detailing and selection of heartwood timber will mean minimal maintenance and a life span of over thirty years.
