'Gearradubh' - Grimsay, North Uist (2000) The curved walls and roof of this exposed North Uist house reflect the shape of the black house and are used to deflect the wind and create an interesting internal plan. The lean-to houses the services, including utility, bathroom, ensuite and cupboards. This allows the main rooms to be simple and elegant with dramatic double height spaces. The fitted kitchen, although open to the dining, is tucked under a future gallery, with the breakfast bar helping to define areas. The split level and wall also helps separate the dining from the living. The curves focus the living room towards the fire and views and gives a more sheltered feeling to the space.
