Burnside, Elgol, Isle of Skye (2009) An old whitehouse in a stunning setting in Elgol had been disfigured by poorly thought out extensions. The client had an old photograph of the building in its original condition - with white rendered walls, attractive dormers and brightly coloured doors and windows. We decided to reinstate the cottage front elevation to its previous state - but also transform the interiors in to a light, contemporary design. The house was stripped and made waterproof, and then fully insulated. A new rear extension was added, with a full strip of patent glazing to bring light in to the interiors. A timber extension to the sea-side gable gives stunning views from the living area, and an integrated kayak store, barbecue area and shed complete the exterior. |
