This project is located within the spectacular context of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. The clients approached us with an ambition to adapt their home in order to take full advantage of its beautiful surroundings.

The brief was to improve the quality of the building fabric and its layout to allow the building to more adequately support a contemporary, rural lifestyle. There was also an ambition to implement a sustainable energy system, taking advantage of the natural resources available on site.

The approach was to breathe life in to the existing building by maximising openings and the ingress of natural light through the reconfiguration of spaces.

The design proposals involve over-cladding an existing extension in order to reinstate the hierarchy of the original dwelling house and allow the building to sit more comfortably in the landscape. Over-cladding also provides an opportunity to improve the quality of the architecture and materials by introducing simple, elegant forms and refined detailing.
