The plan to create a new, high-quality visitor experience at the gateway to Skye is an opportunity that Dualchas are delighted to be involved in. We welcome the vision of our Client to develop this site and in particular the aspiration to invest in a project that represents Scottish quality in food and design.

The site itself creates challenges and opportunities, being as it is: adjacent to the main road; adjacent to other businesses and communities; and within a wooded setting with no direct or distant view out.

The design must respond to the woodland nature of the site, whilst advertising itself to visitors and providing an intimate experience of the product and process of production.

This initial report analyses the ambition of the brief, the nature of the site and seeks to develop an approach that is sensitive to the landscape offering an exemplar visitor experience.
