"Dualchas was the architect and lead partner for the construction of the Raasay village hall. As chair of the Raasay Community Association from 2004-2009 covering the build project, I worked closely with the Dualchas staff and was fully supported and well advised by them through a tricky project. Dualchas worked constantly to keep the project on track until a very successful conclusion. I have no hesitation in recommending the company as architect and team leader for similar projects."
- Roland Stiven - Raasay Village Hall
"Dualchas demonstrated extraordinary care for the setting and use of a building. Far from challenging the environment around it, the contemporary look of our own Dualchas designed home blends with it perfectly. The materials - stone, larch and metal - were chosen to match the materials found locally in traditional sheds and croft houses, and the design - with all its wow-factor - nests unobtrusively within the contours of the landscape. The Dualchas team took great pains to learn exactly how we would use the building - for work, leisure and social gatherings - and as a result, form meticulously follows function."
- Dominic Houlder - house at Boreraig
"Dualchas were not fazed: in fact they relished the opportunity to excel at design, build, logistics and specifying renewable options for my off-grid, off-shore home."
- Fred Taylor - house at Scotosay, Isle of Harris
"The best way to test an architect\'s skill is to toss them a difficult brief and then introduce them to an existing building to work with. I can confirm that Dualchas performed extremely well!"
- Paul Monks - Kirk House, Garve
"Dualchas was introduced to me by a local builder who recommended the practice on the basis of a level of quality and design that he thought we would value. He was absolutely right.

Despite being based many miles south of Skye the project was easy to manage, largely based on my quick realisation that I trusted the eye and vision of Neil. It is fair to say that the budget I was working to had some flex in it and, well, if a job needs to be done it may as well be done properly! Building in remote Skye by its very nature is expensive and building on a hill in Skye with limited road access didn't help but despite these natural hurdles I genuinely believe that Dualchas delivered value for money.

Maintaining the external appearance of a traditional croft cottage was important to me but at the same time so too was the creation of an open, light internal living space. Both were achieved together with a subtle reorientation of the dwelling to allow a view of the majestic Black Cuillin to be had from the sitting room.

In addition to the pitch perfect overall vision Dualchas also have a superb eye for detail; flooring, timber choice, light fittings, kitchen ware etc were all well chosen and utterly right for the feel that we were all aiming for.

I am very proud of what has been achieved and very grateful to Dualchas for having the skill to lead a project with great integrity and style. I would go so far as to say it was "fun" and you can't often say that about a building project.
- Simon Milner - Burnside, Elgol
"Following early retirement and the death of my first wife I decided to have a new house built somewhere near to the Scottish mountains and the sea. I checked out the Dualchas website and found that their style of designing houses blend in well to rural Scottish locations.

I visited their office at Duisdalebeag and discussed the various options which might suit me if a new site could be found. I then spent half a year travelling up and down the West Coast from Ardnamurchan to Gairloch. When a site became available at Flodigarry on Skye I knew it was the right one. It was near the Quiraiung with fine sea views across to Torridon and Gairloch.

I then contracted Dualchas and both Mary and Neil came up with possible layouts for the unusual sloping site. Neil then developed a design which gave me my requested three bedrooms, but in two buildings rather than one so that the buildings would blend well with the local township. The finished house is a delight, especially now after a couple of years that the zinc roof cladding and the larch timber cladding are weathering and blending in well with the surroundings.
- John Ritchie - house at Flodigarry
"Working with Dualchas was a very pleasant experience. Continuous
advice and support made the once daunting thought of self build into simple step by step process of building our dream holiday home. We now own a beautiful longhouse which is admired by all our guests."
- Alan Campbell
"What I love about my house is the connection between inside and out. The full height glazing means that the landscape seems incredibly close, yet I can shut the windows to a storm, draw the blinds and feel warm and secure."
- Margaret Robertson
"My favourite feature is the open plan living. While my house is quite compact, the lack of corridor space and high volume to my living room means that the house feels big. Many people have described it as the \"tardis effect\"."
- Alasdair MacLennan
"We have had many compliments on the house and on your design and are really happy in our home."
- Andy + Viv Oliver
"I love my house because in the dramatic landscape within which it sits it looks as if it has always been there. Yet as one goes through the door it reveals itself as a stylish, modern and practical home."
- Anna Stewart
"Absolutely beautiful house. Everything was excellent. This place definitely deserves it\'s 5 star grading. You have done an excellent job with An Linnean. Beautiful decor, beautiful surroundings. A place for people who like the finer things in life."
