Two studios. One practice.
Founded in 1996, Dualchas has grown into an architectural practice with studios on the Isle of Skye and in Glasgow, led by directors Neil Stephen, Alasdair Stephen and Rory Flyn, with Sophie Rowland leading the Glasgow studio.
At the heart of the practice is a belief that architecture should belong: to its place, its purpose and the people who use it. That principle has remained constant as Dualchas has grown and continues to shape how the practice evolves.
The two studios are central to who we are. Skye roots us in the landscapes and communities of the Highlands and Islands, while Glasgow, led by Sophie, places us within Scotland’s largest city and its wider architectural and cultural life. Together, they operate as one practice, sharing people, projects and ideas.
Continuity and new thinking
We have built a team that combines long-standing knowledge of the practice with younger architects and designers bringing new ideas and perspectives.
That combination of continuity and change is important. The aim is not to preserve a particular Dualchas style, but to carry forward the principles behind the work while allowing each generation to question, reinterpret and develop them.
Based in Scotland, working further afield
We work throughout Scotland, across the UK and internationally. The Highlands and Islands remain an important part of our identity, but the practice is equally at home working in urban settings and in different landscapes and communities further afield.
From our two studios, we bring a shared ethos and evolving design culture to every place in which we work.
