A working glass factory can be more than a place of production: it can reveal the skill behind the finished work and become a destination in its own right. Dualchas was commissioned to create a new home for an established Highland glass company, bringing manufacturing, exhibition, retail and visitor facilities together within a purpose-designed building.

The company had outgrown its premises and needed space for efficient production, future growth and a stronger customer experience. The architecture also had to give the business a physical identity that reflected the quality and precision of the glass made within it.

Our response
The design places glassmaking at the centre of the visitor experience. Carefully controlled views allow customers to see the process and understand the time, craft and expertise behind each piece, while production, servicing, storage and public circulation remain safe and efficient.

Retail and exhibition spaces complete a natural sequence from raw material and making to finished product. The building is planned to adapt as production and visitor requirements change, supporting the long-term growth of the company.

Architecture and brand
Materials, detailing, light and landscape are used to express the company's identity. Rather than resembling a conventional industrial or retail building, the new premises create a recognisable Highland destination in which architecture, craftsmanship and commerce reinforce one another.

Outcome
The proposal turns the company's working process into a memorable public experience. It improves day-to-day operations, creates room for expansion and gives the business a building that communicates the provenance and quality of its work.
