Last Saturday Dualchas director Alasdair Stephen gave an inaugural lecture at the first Common Weal Skye event at the new community hub, An Crùbh, on the Isle of Skye.  A bigger than expected turnout heard a personal story of how housing problems could be overcome and how these related to successes and failures in the past.

Speaking after the event, Alasdair said,

'The fact the Highlands emptied between the wars was a political decision.  The government decided that people were better abroad or in the cities than in their own communities.  I wanted to emphasise that a lack of housing opportunities in rural Scotland today is also a political decision.  But these problems can be solved.'

Alasdair's full lecture can be read here and also on Facebook.
