Catawba River

Morganton, North Carolina

This proposal consists of a main dwelling and supporting structures, carefully broken down into smaller forms to respond to the scale and character of the site. This approach allows the development to sit comfortably within the natural landscape, avoiding visual dominance.

The buildings are arranged to create informal zones across the site, establishing a sense of progression from the entrance to the front door. Landscaping plays a key role in integrating the built elements with the terrain, helping to anchor the architecture within its setting.

A consistent proportional language is used throughout, giving the project a unified and coherent feel. Timber-clad forms are partially screened by existing vegetation, offering glimpses from the boundary that reveal the presence of the architecture without fully exposing it.
