Portnalong

Isle of Skye

Inspired by the scattered stone ruins of nearby clachans, these houses are to be embedded in to a hillside in the crofting township of Portnalong. The building functions have been broken down into separate forms, creating sheltered space between and arranged to fit the undulating topography.

The walls will be constructed of highly-insulated clay block, clad externally in locally sourced stone. The turf roofs will help the structures discreetly bed in to the landscape.
