Between a rock and a larch place.
At Diabeg in Wester Ross, an existing stone ruin was taken down and rebuilt to the same proportions. A new larch-clad mirror image was created alongside and linked to the stone structure by a frameless triple-glazed link.
The stone wing provides an en-suite bedroom and the larch wing accommodates an open-plan living area, bathroom and guest bedroom. The frequent transitions between the link, where you feel connected to the elements, and the coccoon-like buildings to either side, give this home its unique character.
The house won the award for the Best New Building in the 2022 Highland an Islands Architecture Awards.
